In 2006 UK-based Xavier Ribas was commissioned to make new work in the Netherlands, hosted by the University of Leiden and Paradox.

‘Greenhouse’ is an installation about the history of the Wieringermeer, a polder drained in the 1930s now developing a new future as the location for a gigantic greenhouse complex. The project focuses building site of a greenhouse the corporation Agriport is building by the A7, near Medemblik, some 60 kms North of Amsterdam. The structure is around 800 meters long, its surface more than 250.000 square meters. It will be ready for full production in the course of 2007.
The work consists of a video piece with the camera travelling from one end of the greenhouse to another - about 800 metres long and a series of images looking at new Dutch corporate headquarters, often built new in the suburbs of cities, rather than occupying city centres.  These sites are often culturally non-specific and anonymous spaces, as though the occupiers are looking for some kind of invisibility.
