UK-based artist Tomoko Yoneda was selected to undertake a commission in Siesto San Giovanni in Italy, hosted by Museo di Fotografia de Contemporanea.
‘The City Rises’ is a study of an industrialized Northern Italian town, once a major centre of the iron and steel industry and a symbol of progress, deserted in the early 1980s. The images capture the city in a state of flux, shortly before an urban regeneration project will transform the landscape, industry and working lives of its inhabitants.
‘The City Rises’ has been exhibited in Italy and the Netherlands.
‘The City Rises’ monograph was published by Museum di Fotografia Contemporanea in 2007.
